Deliveroo for work / Food for thought

Key areas to improve your employee perks programme

Post-pandemic we have seen a variety of difficult challenges for employers such as economic restraints, redundancies and the great resignation. Since most companies are adopting a hybrid working pattern, how have you managed to attract and retain talent?

An employee benefits package offers a way to attract and retain talent, improve wellbeing, break down silos, encourage maximum performance and more. In our recent survey, 74% of our clients said they use Deliveroo for Work to reward employees for their hard work - appreciation goes a long way.

Sit back and relax as we take you through the key areas where you can improve your perks programme to benefit both corporate performance and the employee experience.

Food perks

In our Post-Pandemic Work Report, 60% of our clients said that food is absolutely essential or very important to their current work environment - we agree work without food is like sushi without rice.

Employees love food perks at work and their benefits go even further than just filling the hunger void for those stomach rumbles. People love and need food - FACT! So how do you make food a necessary part of the workplace experience?

During work hours, including those late workers, food is the necessary fuel to keep us ticking over throughout the day as it’s something we all love and essentially need. Employers who offer food perks, such as monthly meal allowances, are helping to ease the burden on their employees during the current cost of living crisis, but also offer a show of appreciation.

Skills and development

Per LinkedIn’s 2022 Workplace Learning Report, employees who feel that their skills are not being put to good use in their current job are 10 times more likely to be looking for a new job than those who feel that their skills are being put to good use.

And you can understand this perspective right? Employees want to feel mentally stimulated whilst having the opportunity to grow their own skill set and climb the ladder in terms of job prospects.

From specific skills development, relevant to their role, to personal development, you should look to offer the necessary training both internally and externally. This isn’t just a benefit to the employee but also to you, the employer, as by improving their skill set you can:

  • Improve employee satisfaction
  • Save money on external recruitment
  • Build a high-performing, multi-skilled environment
  • Reduce the use of external expertise
  • Attract and retain talent

Company socials

Although not everyone will want to socialise with work colleagues, having company socials in place each year is a highly rewarding experience for employees to say thank you for their hard work.

Not only is this a thank you to the employees, but it also helps you, the employer, build a strong workplace culture and encourage interactions/collaborations amongst staff across the business. In our recent LinkedIn survey, 55% of respondents said that social events are very important to their office - we agree!

Employee wellbeing

One of the most important rewards you can offer your employees is how you can support their own wellbeing during their tenure at your workplace.

Why is employee wellbeing important? Wellbeing is a fundamental pillar in relation to employee health (physically and mentally) and happiness. According to CIPD, more than two-thirds (66%) of organisations are concerned about the impact of COVID-19 on employees’ mental health.

More employers are now revisiting their employee wellbeing programmes and some are even introducing them, as the health and safety of staff has been accelerated to the top of corporate meeting agendas. Health is wealth and even more so when your employees are at their best physical and mental condition, their performance will also improve.

Here are some of our picks to include/review in your current programme:

  • Offer flexible working
  • Ensure employees have all of the office equipment they need to work comfortably
  • Team social events
  • Regular catch-up meetings with the team manager
  • Training/learning days which cover all aspects of adult living (saving, cost of living, mental health, inclusivity, financial wellbeing)
  • Food perks
  • Workplace safety

Now that we’ve covered a few areas of your employee rewards programme, it’s now a good time to review your own to see if it's still fit for purpose, especially in the current period of inflation. The better your employee rewards programme is, which includes benefits that go beyond their paycheck, the more likely you are to attract and retain high-quality staff.

Don’t wait until it’s too late to review your employee perks programme, give current and future employees a reason to work for your company for the long haul.
