Hidden Gem, James Williams Diners has been crowned as ‘Best UK Caribbean Takeaway’ at this year’s UK Caribbean Food Awards 2024, in partnership with Deliveroo and KERB, at a star-studded ceremony at the Clapham Grand in London last night.
London, UK Tuesday 10th December: Hidden Gem, James Williams Diners has been crowned as ‘Best UK Caribbean Takeaway’ at this year’s UK Caribbean Food Awards 2024, in partnership with Deliveroo and KERB, at a star-studded ceremony at the Clapham Grand in London last night.
The ‘Best UK Caribbean Takeaway Award’, sponsored by Deliveroo, saw three finalist restaurants Jerkbox from Luton, May 10 from London and James Williams Diners from High Wycombe, go head to head in a cook-off to prepare popular dishes from their menus for a panel of judges hosted one of the delivery app’s Editions Kitchens in London.
The panel of judges, which included award co-founders Dawn Burton and Marsha Barnett, Jackson McLarty, founder of Black Eats LDN, and Oke Omoniyi, a food content creator from Deliveroo, were blown away by the authentic taste and bold flavours of the Jerk Chicken and rice dish cooked on the day, as well as the passion of husband-and-wife duo Cynthia and Andrew St Ange, who own and run James Williams Diners.
Since opening in 2022, local neighbourhood legends James Williams Diners—named after owner Andrew's father—have been known by their community for serving authentic and flavourful St Lucian cuisine. Celebrating everything from vibrant food, culture and exceptional talent, the UK Caribbean Food Awards ceremony saw 17 worthy winners take to the stage to collect their awards. In addition to James Williams Diners taking the Best UK Caribbean Takeaway award, sponsored by Deliveroo, Mahalia’s Kitchen from Somerset took Best Street Food Trader, sponsored by KERB, and the most sought-after award, Best Caribbean Restaurant of the Year, was won by Limin from Southbank, London.
The prestigious awards, founded by Dawn Burton and Marsha Barnett, mark one of the most anticipated food events of the year. They offer a platform to honour the best Caribbean restaurants in over twenty unique categories across the UK.
