  • Trial launches in Brighton as research reveals almost half of Brits forget to pack sun cream for a holiday, closely followed by phone charging cables, toothbrush and bug spray.
  • Brits nationwide can find everything they need for their summer vacation in the ‘Holiday Essentials’ hub on the Deliveroo app, from sun cream to ear plugs, sleep masks and more .

Tuesday 30th August: As beach-goers make the most of the long-awaited sunshine, a Deliveroo rider has been spotted making waves off the coast in Brighton with a new eFoil surfboard delivery service. .

Pictures released today show the first-ever delivery via eFoil as the delivery app trials a new ‘SPF SOS’ delivery service to rescue sunburnt beachgoers with emergency suncream. .

With one in six Brits set to ditch summer abroad in favour of a UK-based staycation, the ‘SPF SOS’ delivery trial comes as research from Deliveroo reveals suncream is the most forgotten holiday essential for UK holidaymakers (46%), followed by a phone charging cable (35%), toothbrush (33%), bug spray (30%), and after-sun (29%) (*see notes to editors for the top 10 most forgotten holiday essentials).

The trial celebrates the launch of ‘Deliveroo’s Holiday Essentials Hub’, a one-stop destination for much-needed holiday essentials from sun cream to earplugs, in a bid to help forgetful Brits order what they want when they need it this summer.

The never seen before pictures from the food delivery service show surfer and eFoil extraordinaire-turned-Deliveroo-rider, Tom Court, in action as he rides at 10 MPH towards the shores of Brighton Beach, in a bespoke teal surf kit with sun cream in hand.

As the surfing rider arrives on the beach shore, he disembarks the eFoil and delivers suncream straight into the hands of beachgoers who had ordered suncream at the touch of a button from Deliveroo’s ‘Holiday Essentials’ Hub.

Famed for its iconic pier and colourful beach huts, the epic trial in Brighton, UK, utilised cutting-edge eFoil technology to carry out the nation's first eFoil stunt from any delivery app.

Suzy McClintock, VP of Grocery and Retail at Deliveroo says: “We are thrilled that our ‘SPF SOS’ delivery trial helped get suncream into the hands of some sun-kissed beachgoers enjoying the beauty of Brighton beach. For anyone else heading off on a summer holiday this year, we’re delighted to say that our ‘Holiday Essentials’ Hub is available on the app right across the country, making it quick and easy for holidaymakers to get essentials delivered to them in as little as 30 minutes.“

Delivered directly to doorsteps in less than 30 minutes, the ‘Holiday Essentials’ Hub offers customers a personalised selection of holiday items from local retailers tailored to their location - great news for the most forgetful members of the holiday party, who were revealed in research to be partners (48%), closely followed by children (24%) and friends (14%).

Deliveroo launched the ‘Shopping’ section of the app in November 2023, expanding beyond restaurant and groceries to help bring everything from health and pharmacy, pet care, baby, beauty and toiletries, toys & games and more, direct to doorsteps.

While the eFoil delivery trial won't be taking place outside of Brighton, customers can order staycation essentials from their local ‘Holiday Essentials' Hub on Deliveroo today through the Deliveroo app, or online. Deliveroo Plus customers can enjoy free delivery and access to other exclusive member benefits. Download the app here.
