4 August 2022: Deliveroo has doubled the number of its restaurant partners in Southampton since the start of the pandemic and is seeing huge growth in orders as it continues to expand its reach across the UK.
Customers in Southampton can now order from over 480 different restaurants on Deliveroo, with the likes of authentic Greek restaurant Miss Pita, Chinese cuisine specialist Red Dragon and authentic Indian restaurant Coriander Lounge added to the app.
Order data from Deliveroo shows that a Five Guys Cheeseburger is the most popular takeaway order in Southampton, closely followed by Sweet Chilli Chicken from Kokoro and Beefy Nacho Burrito from Taco Bell claiming third place. As plant-based food becomes increasingly popular across the UK, the most popular vegan dish in Southampton is Wagamamas’ ‘Bang Bang’ Cauliflower.
With more restaurants and more choice since Deliveroo became operational in Southampton, orders are up 130% compared to February 2020. Highlighting the continued popularity of getting Southampton’s favourite restaurant and takeaway dishes delivered to your door in as little as 30 minutes, Deliveroo has experienced significant growth and been able to support close to 700 new jobs with restaurant partners since they began operating in the city.
The business has also expanded its grocery offering in the city, with the number of grocery sites available on the app increasing fivefold over the past two years. The top-selling grocery items across Southampton include strawberries, semi-skimmed milk, bananas, ice cubes and ice lollies as customers increasingly choose to get their daily essentials and grocery staples delivered to their door in as little as minutes.
Deliveroo is committed to supporting the growth of small and independent restaurants, and some of its best performing restaurants in the area include Scoops, Nara Japanese Restaurant and Beity Lebanese Kitchen.
Deliveroo Vice President of Regional Growth, Jeff Wemyss said: “Deliveroo’s growth in Southampton is brilliant to see, and we are pleased we’re able to support local restaurants, help them grow and create jobs. We want to make it as easy as possible for Southampton residents to get their favourite local restaurants and groceries direct to their door, and we’re very excited for what the future holds here.”
CEO of Red Dog Saloon, Tom Brooke said: “Deliveroo growth over the past year has been phenomenal. Working with our account manager, Max we have substantially increased our sales and performance and delivered so much more value to our brand. Deliveroo helps to spread awareness and build customers by letting people who previously wouldn’t have tried our product try them in the comfort of their own home. As a result we have had considerable growth in design in business as well. Deliveroo in my opinion is the market leader in the delivery business and they stand alone in this regard. I have found working with Max to be an absolute pleasure, and it really makes a massive difference having a good rep on the Deliveroo side so we can work together to drive sales."
Owners of MexiGo, Lynda Turnbull and Ian Rayner said: “We have seen strong growth on Deliveroo and our partnership with them very much compliments our business as it has a knock on effect on our dine-in sales too - it’s great that people who order online still come in to see and try different things. Deliveroo’s handling of the delivery logistics also allows us to concentrate on our dine-in business and have time to improve systems and products. We have an excellent working relationship with Deliveroo and their team and the support we get is fantastic.”
