Thursday 24th February 2022: Deliveroo has today announced the opening of a new flagship office in Manchester, after tripling its headcount in the past year. The new office by Piccadilly Gardens is now the largest Deliveroo office outside of London, reflecting the strength of Deliveroo’s commitment to Manchester, where the company now employs around 180 people.

The newly expanded Manchester office will act as the national hub for the business’ small and medium businesses (SMB) team, focused on supporting the growth of small and independent restaurant partners across the UK and Ireland. This new office space will enable continued investment in this vital function, which encompasses sales, onboarding, account management and support. Deliveroo is committed to supporting the growth of small and independent restaurants, with Manchester-based ‘Salt & Pepper’ crowned Best Newcomer at the 2021 Deliveroo restaurant awards.

As Deliveroo expands its headcount in the city, the company has almost tripled the number of restaurant partners in Manchester during the pandemic, helping them to reach new customers and continue trading during restrictions. Customers in Manchester can now order from more than 2,900 restaurants on Deliveroo - up nearly 150% since February 2020.

This expansion is reflected in the growth of Deliveroo orders, which have increased more than 380% between January 2020 and January 2022 despite the ending of lockdown restrictions. This highlights the continued popularity of getting your favourite restaurant and takeaway dishes delivered to your door, with the top three orders in Manchester being butterfly chicken from Nandos, a cheeseburger from Five Guys and hot wings from KFC.

Deliveroo has also expanded its grocery offering in the city, with the number of grocery sites available on the app up almost four-fold since January 2020. To complement the company's existing on-demand grocery service and enhance the customer experience, Deliveroo launched its first ‘Deliveroo Hop’ delivery-only store in Manchester earlier this month in partnership with Morrisons, bringing groceries to customers' doors in as little as 10 minutes.

Deliveroo’s Chief Business Officer UK&I, Carlo Mocci said: “We are really proud to open a new flagship office in Manchester, a key market for Deliveroo with our amazing restaurant and grocery partners, delivery-only Editions and Deliveroo Hop service all available to consumers. The new office will allow us to invest in support for our small and independent restaurant partners both in Manchester and across the whole of the UK and Ireland, helping them to grow their businesses and reach new consumers.”

Co-Owner of Salt & Pepper, Chloe Tao said: “We partnered with Deliveroo last year when we expanded to our second location in the Northern Quarter. Since then, our delivery demand exploded, which resulted in Salt & Pepper winning ‘Best Newcomer’ in the Deliveroo Restaurant Awards! We are thrilled with this award which has validated all the hard work of our amazing team after a tough year. We look forward to seeing our reach continue to grow thanks to our partnership with Deliveroo.”

Managing Director of Rudy’s Pizza, Neal Bates said: "Rudy’s first partnered with Deliveroo during the first lockdown in 2020. As our dine in trade was forced to close, Deliveroo offered a solution to continue trading which was integral to keeping Rudy’s Pizza in business. Even though our dine in trade is busier than ever, Deliveroo has become an important part of our business and we plan to open new sites and grow our brand with delivery front and centre of our plans.”
