To mark the King’s Coronation weekend, Deliveroo is trialling the sale of weekend newspapers through Deliveroo HOP, the food delivery company’s rapid grocery delivery service.
Tuesday 2nd May 2023, UK. Roo-yal newspaper delivery: To mark the King’s Coronation weekend, where thousands of people are expected to purchase commemorative papers, Deliveroo is trialling the sale of weekend newspapers through Deliveroo HOP, the food delivery company’s rapid grocery delivery service. This is the first time that newspapers will have been available on Deliveroo, and if the trial is successful, could become a regular feature on the food delivery app.
It is a British tradition that big Royal moments are accompanied by newspaper supplement items and pullouts, which is why Deliveroo wants to make it easy for people to get these historic, commemorative papers delivered directly to their doorsteps.
Commemorative newspapers will be in high demand over the coronation weekend, for what will be a historical moment, and Deliveroo customers no longer have to leave the house to queue up for the papers. They will be able to get their Saturday newspaper of choice delivered directly to their door, in as little as 15 minutes.
The newspapers will be available via Deliveroo HOP with Morrisons and Deliveroo HOP with Waitrose, giving the option to order them alongside a range of over 1,800 groceries, from milk, eggs, bread, fresh fruit, fresh flowers, to party food and prosecco.
Suzy McClintock, VP of Grocery & HOP at Deliveroo said, “No matter how our customers plan to spend the Coronation weekend, for many people this will be a day they want to look back at in years to come. Newspapers are the perfect memorabilia to capture a moment in time, so we’re excited to finally offer them to our customers on-demand through Deliveroo HOP. We’re continuously looking for new ways to enhance the customer experience and convenience on Deliveroo and if this trial is successful, we hope to make newspapers a regular feature on the app.”
This comes following the launch of Deliveroo’s newest HOP sites in Acton and Norbury, London, meaning even more people can access their favourite newspaper on the weekend of the Coronation.
The trial is running from Deliveroo HOP with Morrisons and Deliveroo HOP with Waitrose sites across the country, covering London, Manchester, Cambridge, Brighton and Bristol on 6th May 2023, the day of the coronation ceremony. Some of the UK’s most popular national newspapers will be available, including Daily Mail, The Telegraph, The Guardian, Daily Mirror and Daily Express.
Deliveroo is calling on customers to provide feedback on the trial via social media; if popular, the rapid food delivery company may look to roll out the offering long term.
To find your local Deliveroo HOP with Morrisons or Deliveroo HOP with Waitrose, head to the Deliveroo app or website and head to the Grocery tile or search Deliveroo HOP. Note, the newspapers will appear on the Deliveroo HOP with Morrisons and Deliveroo HOP with Waitrose menus on Saturday 6th May only. There is a limited amount of newspapers available as part of this trial, so customers should get in there quickly on Saturday morning!
If you’ve trialled Deliveroo’s newspaper trial, don’t hesitate to contact us via Deliveroo social channels (Twitter: @Deliveroo, Instagram: @Deliveroo) to give us your feedback.
