Taken from a 19th Century German text this traditional Augsburger lager uses a 12 hour mash followed by a more traditional boil and lager fermenation to produe a beer that is both complex and super easy drinking. European Beer
Augustiner - Helles 5.2%
Augustiner Lagerbier Hell is a refreshing long stored beer that’s mild, sparkling and relatively light. This classic Bavarian lager has fresh and fruity lemon notes giving it a pleasing citrusy flavour. Like most German beers, it’s best served cold and is brewed in accordance with the German purity laws, meaning it’s been made with just water, barley and hops. A long secondary fermentation makes for a lightly hoppy finish and an overall crisp, smooth flavour.50cl£4.00Rodenbach - Flanders Red 6% 33cl
This is an aged Belgian red ale, which is ‘ripened quietly in oak barrels for two years’. It has an extremely pungent aroma of rich grapey fruit, with acidic notes, very much like a slightly sour red wine or possibly a gueuze. In the mouth it is slightly sweet, extremely acidic and fruity, with grapes and even cherries discernible, and very lively. Despite the sweetness it is not at all cloying, even thin, with little or no trace of malt. Finish is sharp and fruity.£3.80Rochefort 6 Trappist 7.5% 33cl
This beer begins with a density of 16.5º Plato is 7.5% ABV. “Rochefort 6” is the oldest Rochefort Trappist beer, and was brewed empirically until the end of the Second World War. Until 1958, this was the only Rochefort beer that was bottled in both 33 cc bottles and 75 cc bottles. It has a strong malt taste and is slightly bitter.£3.90Saison Dupont 6.5% 33cl
A world classic beer and the yardstick for one of Belgium’s most important beer styles. It is the most admired AND imitated Saison in the world. A strong, vital yeast is key to full attenuation and thus to the style. Saison Dupont is straw colored with a dense creamy head. Oude Gueuze is known as the champagne of beers, especially as it is only available as a limited edition. Timmermans Oude Gueuze’s special flavour derives from its time-honoured method of preparation. It is a blend of old lambic, which has been aged for three years in wooden barrels, and young lambic which ensures spontaneous fermentation in the bottle. Westmalle Dubbel is a dark, reddish-brown Trappist beer with a secondary fermentation in the bottle. The creamy head has the fragrance of special malt and leaves an attractive lace pattern in the glass. The flavour is rich and complex, herby and fruity with a fresh-bitter finish. It is a balanced quality beer with a soft feel in the mouth and a long, dry aftertaste.£3.40
