About Maltings Taphouse & Bottle Shop - Newton Abbot
Our shop and bar is set within a former Maltings in Newton Abbot, Devon, right next to the Templars Way footpath and cycle route. Here you will find a wonderful array of beers, handpicked by our team of craft beer specialists. We stock a huge range of craft and traditional beers brewed here in the South West, the wider UK and far beyond along with gins, wines and other spirits available to order.
Beers > Lambic
Boon – Framboise - 375 ml.
Raspberry lambic was once a rarity and only produced for a few weeks during the summer. Frank boon was the first brewer to again prepare a raspberry lambic in the summer of 1976. More than 300 grams per liter of fresh raspberries give framboise boon a fresh fruity taste. The young lambic supports the flavour. But this is very much about raspberries, not the lambic. Of course we do not use artificial flavorings, only real raspberries. 5% abv.£6.25Boon – Geuze-375 ml.
Oude Geuze Boon is a monument of taste with an alcohol content of 7%. It’s a magnificent blend of 90% mild 18 month-old Lambic, 5% strong 3 year-old beer and 5% very young Lambic, which provides fermentable sugars and wild yeasts. All our beers are aged in oak casks, mixed in a vessel of 25,000 litres and chilled. Before bottling, we bring the mix to fermentation temperature. The bottles are then placed in an air-conditioned room, which leads to a secondary fermentation in the bottle.£5.50Boon – Kriek-375 ml.
For this specialty, we use old and young Lambic beer that has aged in our oak casks. When the Lambic is 6 months old, we add 25% black cherries. This provokes the second fermentation. We then clarify, filter and bottle it. The cherries and young Lambic create a red beer that is both natural and fresh, with an absolutely unforgettable sweet and sour taste. This is kriek as it should be, with nothing but real cherries and Lambic. There is no place for artificial colourings or flavourings. 4% ABV£5.50Boon – Schaarbeekse Kriek- 375 ml.
This Schaarbeekse cherry is a variety tart-acidic cherry which was unique to the Lambic Region that was always used for Kriek. The supply decreased substantially over the years and became less common for use in fruit lambic. So to make a Kriek with these cherries is to be truly “Traditional.”£9.00
Beers > Trappist / Abbey Ale
Chimay – Blue -330 ml.
The Chimay Blue Cap, baptized “Grande Reserve” in 750 ml bottles is a dark Trappist beer with a powerful aroma, the complex flavor of which improves across the years. It was first brewed as a Christmas beer by the monks of Scourmont Abbey in 1956. This authentic Belgian beer, whose tinge of fresh yeast is associated with a light rosy flowery touch, is particularly pleasant. Its aroma, perceived as one enjoys it, only accents the delightful sensations revealed by the odor.£5.25Rochefort – 6 -330ml.
Rochefort 6 (red cap, brown beer, 7.5% ABV). Reddish colour, brewed only about once per year, representing approximately 1% of total beer production. This beer begins with a density of 16.5 Plato and is 7.5% ABV. Rochefort 6 is the oldest Rochefort Trappist beer, and was brewed empirically until the end of the Second World War. Until 1958, this was the only Rochefort beer that was bottled in both 33 cc bottles and 75 cc bottles. It has a strong malt taste and is slightly bitter.£4.25
Beers > Bitter / Amber Ale
Hanlons - Stormstay -500 ml.
Stormstay is Hanlon’s premium bitter. A strong amber ale,surprisingly smooth with hints of toffee and citrus. Dark amber to copper in colour with a toffee and floral hop nose and hints of tangerine. Malt caramel and biscuit nestle with the three aroma hops, Phoenix, Styrian Goldings and Cascade. Late hopping with citrusy Cascade cuts through the alcohol sweetness.£3.75Hanlons - Yellow Hammer -500 ml.
A light and refreshing golden ale that’s so flavour packed it’s bursting. This golden, zesty beer is laden with bittersweet flavours, from Admiral and late hopped with First Gold and Cascade. It is aromatic with pineapple and banana fruitiness with a delicate hoppy finish from dry hopping with First Gold.£3.75Hanlons - Firefly 500 ml.
Fantastic, crisp amber session bitter whose rich character belies the low abv. Light on the palate and kind to the head, it delivers delicate fruitiness from Cascade balanced with biscuity maltiness. Firefly has a clean and citrusy finish, late hopped with Saaz."£3.75Otter - Ale 500ml.
A very well balanced beer that delivers the flavours of quality floor malted barley and finishes with a combination of fruit and some bitterness. Its nose is a balance of malt and fruit. 4.5% ABV.£4.00Otter - Bitter -500ml.
It is a beautifully light and fruity beer with good hoppy bitterness. It leaves a refreshing bitterness which prompts the next gulp. A wonderful, old fashioned, 'session' beer. Brewed for drinking with no frills. 3.6% ABV.£4.00Otter - Head-500ml.
Otter Head has a distinctive barley wine old ale character. It has a malt, fruit sweet flavour which gives way to a long bittersweet aftertaste. It has a well balanced aroma that reflects its taste and is deep red brown in colour. 5.8%.£4.25Bath Ales - Gem -500ml.

Prescott - Hill Climb 500ml.

An unfiltered & unpasteurised APA from the west coast of Norway. Brewed with Amarillo, Chinook and Citra Hops. Although the hops are the dominating flavour and aroma, the beer is easy drinking due to its light body from the pale malts and caramel malt. It offers a golden colour with 45 IBUs, grapefruit, tropical fruit and floral hoppy flavours & aromas. Gluten free edition. 4.7%.£3.50Titanic – Anytime IPA -330ml.

Hanlons - Port Stout -500 ml.
Dark, chestnut beer whose bitter chocolate and roast malt taste from the large dose of roast barley added is softened by the addition of rich Ruby Port, combining the hoppy pepperiness from Phoenix and Bobek with vinous alcoholic fruitiness.£3.75St Austell - Mena Dhu 500ml.
Based on an original Cornish recipe Mena Dhu means black hill, named after the farm that was owned by Walter Hicks, the founder of St Austell Brewery. Mena Dhu is a new generation stout that combines the best of the old with added complexity and refreshment. Complex and flavorsome. Deceptively light and refreshing. Subtle oak smoked aroma. Need a worry free alcohol free beer? We got it for you. A lightly hopped and pleasantly refreshing pale ale, fermented with a brewers yeast which cant ferment Maltose. Tasting like a low abv beer due to this process you can enjoy the beer without the effect. 0.5%.£2.50Lervig – No Worries Grapefruit -330 ml.
No Worries Grapefruit, non-alc beers are the new soda! So we took our No Worries NA Pale Ale and stepped it up a notch with a touch of grapefruit. We love our grapefruit beers so why not be able to enjoy one before you drive home from a meeting and not worry about it. This non-alc beer has all the taste and mouth feels of a 5% fruity pale ale without the need for pain killers in the morning. 0.5%.£3.25

Titanic – Cherry Dark -330ml.
This black bitter uses US and Slovenian hops and is infused with cherries that subtly come through on the aftertaste. 4.4%.£4.25Samuel Smith – Apricot- 330 ml.
Handcrafted at the tiny All Saints Brewery set in a time warp in Stamford using the old manually operated brewing equipment. Finest organically grown barley and wheat are used to create a complex ale which, having undergone primary and secondary fermentation with different yeasts and extended maturation, is taken to Samuel Smith’s small, independent British brewery at Tadcaster. There it is blended with pure organic cherry, strawberry, raspberry or apricot fruit juices and more organic beer.£4.25Samuel Smith – Cherry -330ml.
