Helles simply means pale in German and describes the malty, easy-to-drink beer that is lovingly referred to as 'liquid bread'. With a brewery dating back to 1328, Augustiner-Brau is the oldest brewer in Munich and their Helles is the Bavarian answer to a Czech pilsner but with a less tangy hop character, lighter balance and a citrus fruit and floral hop aroma. 500ml, 5.2% ABV.£4.90Zillertal Pils
Our first foray into importing beer, with this one coming from the Tyrol region of Austria, just to the south of Bavaria. We are lucky enough to be their only UK stockist and in fact they only sell their beers in a 100-mile radius of the brewery (with a little bit exported to Japan too). The Vicini family originally moved to the area of Pescara, in southern Abruzzo, in the 1500s as wool merchants with agricultural holdings, and the cantina for wine operations was constructed in 1853. Grapes are picked by hand and are gently pressed, with fermentation occurring in steel vats and bottling without filtration.A generous and deep fruited Montepulciano with fleshy plum and blackberry fruit. Château Peybonhomme-Les-Tours is a pioneering natural Bordeaux estate run by the Hubert family since 1895. The Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux is 75% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 10% Malbec from clay-limestone soils.
