As ever this is beautifully fresh, a lovely citrus tang and salty zip at the outset but it is the weight of perky fruit that fills out the middle and drives this on, making it so much more impressive than almost anyone else achieves in the appellation. The Delaporte vines are all in Chavignol - the undisputed top spot for Sancerre. With rolling hills more reminiscent of the Cote d'Or than the ubiquitous plains of the Loire valley it is no surprise that the quality is so much higher here.

2019 Morey Saint Denis Blanc Les Crais Domaine Christian Clerget
Racked just before the 2020 harvest to make room for the new vintage. This comes from part of les Crais that has a very white mineral limestone soil. Quite full and concentrated, crunchy and crisp, bright fruit and lots of character. The vineyard was planted in 2003 with 90% Chardonnay with 5% each of Pinot Beurot (Meunier) and Pinot Blanc.

Always a joy to drink from the off this juicy, deeply fruity red plays up all the fun of Malbec in its youth. With floral notes of violets and dark roses, then black cherry, blackberry, blueberry and damson. It is sleek, fresh and bouncy, with some nice bite of tannin to keep it in check and make it a great match for things like hoisin duck, or lamb with prunes.

Bright and perky fruit again. There is real energy here. Fruit is dark and damson like, concentrated - but nicely rich too. Like a black current coulis. Really good - Very delicious Pinot. Gourmande but still with bounce and push. Very nicely balanced. 20% New wood, but Joel selected barrels so as to not really mark the wine - but to amplify the sweetness of the fruit. Great value for proper Burgundian Pinot.

2017 BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO Collemattoni
It’s a wine with a really fun, pronounced Italian herbal quality – perhaps testament to their ability to keep the phenolic ripeness even in the wine. The rest, as you’d expect, is succulent fruit. Great Syrah nose. 'Rhoney' for sure as it jumps out of the glass. A gorgeous fine line of saline savour. Palate is more supple and open. Well-ripened small black berries. Nice lift and flow. Touch of spicy grip on the finish. Gives great pleasure like a super sophisticated, serious Syrah, but with a welcome, faint line of 'blackcurrant pastilles' running through the core.
