Jung And Sexy Pet Nat, Austria, 2021
12%. The star from the a set of natural wine tastings we did in October 2022, this is a light red/dark rosé fizz from Burgenland, Austria. A blend of Blauburger and Roesler, this is a light sparkling with bright red fruit and a perception of sweetness, though the wine is dry. Sour cranberries, ripe strawberries, a hint of vanilla pod - cherry cola-esque. Satisfying and moreish. The presentation is sensational too: cool label, even sexier bottle, and that colour! Aranleon Solo Brut DOP Cava NV, Spain
11.5%. This comes from Wine Club favourite Montesanco, whose excellent wines we discovered two years ago and are now importing into the UK. The area Utiel-Requena is most famous for Cava, and this is a classic easy-drinking fizz, perfect for a summer day. The wine is aged on its lees for 11 months to add texture and complexity. 187 ml, 12.5%. A great value and superbly drinkable wine in can. Made from 100% organic Catarratto grapes from Sicily, this is a fresh and clean white. 2021, 13%. Macabeo is most known as the key grape in Cava, but it can also shine on its own. The varietal is versatile, either giving fresh, easy drinking wines, or more complex, age-worthy wines. This bottle is halfway in-between, fresh and thirst-quenching but with added complexity from 12 hours of skin contact and two months of lees ageing in stainless steel. 2021, 13.5%. This is from wine club regular montesanco's premium "Mon" range. An elegant white wine that is a pure expression of the macabeo grape. Known for its use in cava, macabeo can shine on its own as a fresh and intriguing variety when handled correctly. These vines are 50+ years old, increasing concentration. 2021, 12.5%. A brand new wine from wine club favourites montesanco, based on the east coast of Spain. This is a 100% moscatel from a new winery down in Alicante, where the grape originally hails from. Beautifully aromatic with a crisp freshness and good acidity, this is delicious. 2021, 14.5%. This wine has won best merseguera in Spain on a couple of occasions. A big textural body but with plenty of fruit and freshness. 2020, 13.5%. A first-class white Burgundy from one of the rising-star appellations of the region, Pouilly-Fuissé. Always 100% Chardonnay, this could be the wine to convert any of you ABC (anything but Chardonnay) believers who have gone off the grape due to over-exposure to bad incarnations. Rich, round, full-bodied, a measured amount of oak, this is a knockout special occasion wine, one of the stars of our line-up and ideal for a special occasion. Aranleon Solo Tinto 2020, Spain
14%. Bobal is the defining grape of under-the-radar Spanish region Utiel-Requena, located outside Valencia. The snail on the bottle represents the ethos of Bodega Aranleon, a tribute to the slow, patient work in the vineyard. The grapes are hand-harvested from largely non-irrigated vines and the wine is aged in Hungarian and French oak barrels for six months. Low-intervention, certified organic and vegan. From Wine Club favourite Montensanco's premium "Mon" range, this is a powerful, complex, beast of a red that delivers plenty of bang for its premium price point. 100% Bobal from non-irrigated 100-year-old vineyards. The wine is partially fermented in French oak barrels and then racked afterwards to new French oak barrels where the malolactic fermentation takes place.
